Tips for Selecting Transitional Outfit Pieces

One of the best reasons to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (#Nsale) is to stock up on transitional outfit pieces–pieces that bridge the gap between seasons, i.e. summer into fall.  When deciding which pieces to purchase, it helps to understand the most important qualities of transitional outfit pieces in order to get the most bang for your buck. As you already know, unlike other sale events, the #Nsale is the opportunity to get great deals on top trends before the season starts (as compared to most sales, which occur after the season has passed as stores try to clear out leftover inventory). Since you’re shopping ahead of the season, here’s a few tips to remember as you search for pieces that can be worn from summer into fall.

  • You can never go wrong with neutral colors

Black, white, and ivory are always in-season; you can mix and match them with all sorts of clothing. An ivory blouse will pair just as easily with printed shorts as it will with corduroys or denim jeans.

  • Lightweight fabrics are perfect for layering

Lightweight fabrics, like today’s blouse, can be worn all year long. It looks great under a long cardigan or blazer for cool weather, and looks equally pretty with a flowy skirt or colorful shorts in warmer temperatures.

  • Use accessories to pull the look together

Change out a summer panama hat for a floppy felt fedora, or heeled sandals with ankle booties. Once you have a key piece, you can swap in and out other accessories to make them work year round.

  • Love it or leave it

Whatever you buy, just make sure it’s something that makes you look and feel great! If you try it on and you’re on the fence, return it. You probably won’t wear it, and there’s no sense in filling up your closet–and emptying out your wallet–with things you don’t totally love.

You can shop all of the pieces of today’s outfit at the bottom of the post, and I’m letting you know now that tomorrow’s post is an exciting one from a surprise guest author. Be sure to stop by and check it out! Have a great day, everyone. 🙂
