Three Ways to Dress For Spring in Cool Weather

This time of year is tough for me. As soon as the days trend toward longer, I tire of my winter layers and start yearning for lighter colors despite the fact that there’s still a layer of snow on the ground. Before I start unpacking all of my shorts and sundresses, I use these few steps to curb my desires for warmer weather.

  • Invest in pastel-colored outerwear (in your color palette of course!)

I purchased this wool coat back in [I think] October of last year, with the intent on wearing it during the springtime. In fall and winter months, I stick with a jewel tone and neutral palette, but as soon as spring starts making its way in, I gravitate towards bright whites, light neutrals and soft pastels.  I love the way the light purple contrasts with my darker hair; I think a light teal is perfect for blondes, and a light neutral beige stunning on redheads.

  • Lighten up your makeup with pale pinks

I wear MAC’s Lustre lipstick in Lovelorn and blush in Pink Swoon when I’m looking for that summery glow. Both look great with a soft-shimmer on the eye.

  • Add soft-hued accessories

These tassel pumps are closed-toe–which means if you’ve yet to get your summer pedicure, you’re in the clear. They are also really comfortable with the low-block heel, making them easy to wear for all day at work. You’re going to see them a lot this spring and summer; don’t say I didn’t warn you. 🙂

How are you guys preparing your wardrobes for spring?

Especially if your weather is like ours and you’ve got still snow on the ground.
