Only one month ago, finding a functional yet stylish work tote felt like a never-ending search. I researched several options, knowing that I was looking for something sturdy, with minimal design elements, and–most importantly–large enough for my planner, pair of shoes, wallet, and maybe even my lunch. Finally, after weeks of searching, I settled on this one…
Others in the running were:
- Cuyana Zippered Tote (ultimately preferred the color selections in the Classic tote better)
- Mark & Graham Daily East/West Tote (similar in size, but wasn’t a fan of the seam on the bottom of the bag)
- Madewell Transport Tote (ruled out due to the smaller dimensions)
- Interior zip pocket, and interior slide pocket
- Open/unfinished leather interior
- Option to monogram
- Flexible, yet sturdy design
- Pebbled leather exterior
I really waffled over getting this bag for a long time, but ultimately gave in when the handles on my old work tote started to shred. The Ecru color, the one I purchased, was not available when I was first researching. For that reason, I was really close to going with the Zippered Tote in the Pearl Grey color. What deterred me was that the Pearl Grey almost looked more blue than grey in some of the photos. I even called the Cuyana customer service team to get more information on the color; when they informed me that it definitely pulled shades of blue, I signed up for the waitlist on the Classic Leather tote in Ecru.
It was only a week or two later when I received an email that the color was soon-to-be back in stock. I decided to pre-order and it arrived around the middle of June. I’ve been carrying it to work over the last two weeks, and I’ve been so happy with how it’s handling. It feels really sturdy–and trust me when I say I put a LOT in my bags. The color is neutral enough to go with all of my summer workwear. I decided not to have this one monogrammed, simply because I wanted to have the option of returning it in the case that it didn’t work out. That said, now that I’ve been using it for several weeks, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another style/color combination–like the Zipper Tote in black–and I would feel comfortable enough at this point to proceed with the monogramming. I feel the quality truly is as outstanding as they claim, and I fully support the ‘less is more’ concept they advocate.
If you have any questions about my bag, or the others that I looked into, I’m happy to answer them! Feel free to send me an email or reach out in the comments below.
