Save vs. Splurge: Valentine’s Inspired Accessories

Accessories are the easiest way to freshen up your wardrobe, so today I’ve put together a small list of classic pieces that, when added to any closet, will make it feel “new” again.

Of course, since the theme of the week is Valentine’s Day, these accessories were chosen to compliment your holiday outfits, but are also classic and muted enough to wear again and again. Soft colors like the (#2) neutral handbag, and (#7) scalloped pumps are what I consider classics with a twist. These are the types of items I look for when adding to my own closet–something classic with a special detail.

If you’re looking for something with more color, a deep red or maroon is quite versatile. With investment pieces, like handbags, versatility is key. A neon handbag won’t get you nearly as many wears as a pale pink, soft nude or deep red. Your lifestyle (i.e. whether you work in an conservative office or a creative environment) should be a main consideration with any investment item. It’s not worth spending a ton of money if you’ll only get a few wears out of the item.

On the other hand, a great way to create a fun look without breaking the bank is with makeup. I’m constantly playing around with lipstick. And because you can find some decent options for as low as $10, it’s a no-guilt option for playing dress up.
