Our third January feature is this flowy, pleated dress in a rich, bold color.
Now, it is becoming unusual for me to stray too far from black, grey or white with my everyday looks but, when I do, I find that jewel tones are the most flattering alternative. Red, in particular, is one of those colors where there is a flattering version for every skin tone. Think red lipstick–whether your skin is fair with bluish undertones, a warm golden color, or chocolate brown, there is a red lipstick shade to flatter your unique tones. Much the same, a bold red or berry dress can be just as versatile–a piece you style and re-style over and over because it’s oh-so-flattering.
The Rachell Parcell Savanna Tate Dress
I purchased this dress from the Rachel Parcell collection sometime around fall of last year. Truth be told, since fashion blogger Rachel Parcell is known for being tall and thin–and because she models most all of the pieces in her clothing line–I hesitated to purchase, knowing that I am much shorter and the fit of the pieces would likely require extensive alterations.
As it happens though, the description on this particular dress noted the length was more of a “mini”. Since the silhouette was trapeze style (Loose all around), I figured I could get by, noting that the shorter length should be about right on me. When I received the dress, it was definitely larger all around than I would typically purchase, but with a hem and rolled sleeves, the fit wasn’t all that bad.
Separately, during communications with the RP team, I’ve been told that a petite line is in the works–though I wasn’t given a timeframe. With the extended sizing, we petite ladies will hopefully have better luck with more styles in the future.
Styling for Work
I loved this dress because of the ease of transforming it into completely different looks. It is not overly formal, nor overly structured, and therefore can be worn a multitude of ways depending on how you accessorize.
My office setting is what I consider conservative, so I opted for a neutral pump and classic satchel to carry me through the workday. (If I’m ever unsure of how to style for work, a neutral pump and simple accessories seal the deal.)
How to style for work:
- With neutral pumps, a structured tote, and long necklace
- With a neck scarf, long blazer, and loafer slides
- With knee high boots, a leather tote, and chunky bracelets
Stay tuned throughout the week to see this dress styled for a night out and the weekend (which is finally going to be warm again)!
