#WKLoveYourCloset – January Wardrobe Updates for Every Budget

Do you want to update your wardrobe with a few versatile pieces without breaking the bank?

Versatility has always been the name of the game on Wellesley & King, it’s a concept I blab on and on about in almost every post. But this year, I’d like to take this loving-your-wardrobe thing one step further by highlighting four of my current favorite wardrobe staples and showcasing their versatility throughout the month.

How it works

  • At the beginning of the month, I’ll reveal four pieces that I’ll be highlighting that month.
  • Each week, I’ll style one of those featured items in three different ways to illustrate their range.
  • You’ll find three budget options, so that you can incorporate the styles into your own wardrobes, based on your personal budget.
  • At the end of the month, I’ll post a wrap-up post with a survey so you can tell me what you think and make recommendations for future featured items.

January features

Today’s post introduces the four wardrobe updates that I’ll be featuring each week in January. My goal is to style each piece for work, a night out, and a casual weekend. It’s tough to get out in the cold right now (especially because I really just want to highlight my sweatpants) but I’m looking forward to this challenge–it’ll help me to experiment with items I already own and love, and make them work in “new” creative ways.

Striped wrap dress – A wrap dress or top is universally flattering, and does wonderful things to highlight our decolletage. You can often find these wardrobe staples in wrinkle-free fabrics, making them ideal for one-and-done work and travel outfits.

Long wool vest – You may have picked up on my love for my wool vest already if you follow me on Instagram, but this is undoubtedly one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Every time I wear mine, I feel so cool and chic. It’s the wardrobe addition that I cannot get enough of.

Pleated dress – A flowy pleated dress, especially in a bold red or deep wine are perfect for Valentine’s Day coming next month. The juxtaposition of an airy, feminine dress with edge pieces like ankle boots and leather jackets make for plenty of creative styling.

Bell sleeve top – This trend continues to dominate stores everywhere, which is great because you can literally find TONS of options at every price point. I love this one from Target and it’s under $10. This is a great update to a simple t-shirt that can be styled in for many different occasions while remaining totally comfortable.
