If you are 5’3″ or under like I am then it’s likely you want to wear outfits that make you look taller. My height is something I constantly consider when getting dressed, and I’m often trying to come up with illusions to appear taller, hence the focus of today’s post. And since shorts are a go-to for most everyone during the summer months, my short sisters included, here’s what you need to know to elongate shorter legs.
Choose a 3-inch inseam
A shorter inseam creates the illusion of longer legs. Seems like common sense right? Obviously the shorter inseam shows off more leg which makes you look taller. I specifically say to choose a 3-inch inseam becuse anything longer (like, say, a 5-inch inseam) would awkwardly cut your proportions, and anything shorter… well… if you want to be a lady, you just shouldn’t go shorter.
Opt for high-waist
Higher cut waistlines paired with a crop length or tucked-in top emphasize the waist and elongate the lower body. Boxy style crop tops, tucked-in blouses or anything fitted are great companions to a high-waist short.
Add longer layers
A cardigan, blazer or vest would all pair well with a pair of Daisy Dukes. The key is to choose a piece with a longer length, one that very closely skims the length of the shorts. Long clean lines make the body appear taller, and structured pieces like blazers and sleeveless vests most definitely add a chic vibe to your over all look.
Pick heels with a low-cut vamp
Don’t underestimate the importance of a good pair of heels! There’s a reason why women love heels so much. They work wonders on your legs, especially those of us who can stand to add a few inches BUT, not every heel is flattering on a petite woman. Your best options are those in a nude color with a low vamp (meaning the cut across your foot) closer to the toes, rather than midway up the top of your foot. It’s usually best to avoid anything with an ankle strap, but it’s doable when worn in a nude or color close to your skin tone. You just want to steer clear of thick and black ankle straps, especially if you have wider ankles.
That’s all it takes you guys, and you can also apply these same guidelines with skirts and dresses t0 achieve the same results. Women of any height can follow these tips to look taller, but to my fellow shorties, I hope you found this post especially helpful!
