Is it just me or have you also been living with yard sale and college furniture for way too long? After moving into our first home, we were beyond ready to upgrade our hand-me-down and yard sale furniture to more sophisticated pieces that actually represent our personal style (instead of someone else’s or college dorm days). We enlisted the help of the design experts at Havenly to create a bedroom space that was simple, modern, and not overly feminine. I think you’re going to love the results of this gender-neutral modern bedroom design by Havenly!
A personally-selected designer: Kheirieh Aleid
After using Havenly on a prior project and not completely loving the result, this time I decided to choose my own designer. Right from the start, I felt that Kheirieh really listened to my goals for the space. All of her concepts pulled in elements that I totally loved, and that felt gender neutral overall. Below are the key elements of our modern bedroom design.
Clean lines and minimalistic design.
Our home is quite minimal in much of the space, and we especially wanted to bring that simple feeling to the bedroom design–a place that would be calm, clean, and relaxing. We used lots of white space and a neutral palette to create that sense of calm.
A simple photo wall for a personal touch.
While at first, we considered doing large scale art pieces on each side of the bed, we ultimately opted to let the double-window take center stage and instead do a photo collage on the opposite wall. I love this minimal frame and the way the collage adds a personal feel to the space.
Pops of color in accent pieces.
Not wanting to avoid color entirely, I requested that we bring color into the room with smaller-scale pieces, like the accent pillows. Not part of the original design, we had the accent chair in another room and decided to move it into this space to tie in the pillow.
Easily blends with existing favorites.
Since we were working on a budget, there were many pieces of our current bedroom that we wanted to keep in the new design. The IKEA dresser and shoe cabinet, the West Elm rug, the Article bench, white bedding, and both mirrors were all pieces we already had.
