Really honing my personal style is a goal of mine for 2017. Being picky about the trends I’m trying out, evaluating which of them I think fit my overall lifestyle, and ensuring that they’re not items that I’ll easily tire of, are all part of that goal.
One trend that emerged in full force in 2016 (that will continue into 2017) was that of bell sleeves. You could walk through the mall and see some version of these girly tops and dresses in every store window.
I can’t say that I instantly loved this trend, and in fact there are lots of versions of it that are just too exaggerated for my lifestyle and professional attire (a lot of them feature cold-shoulder or off-the-shoulder cuts), but when I saw this blouse, I figured it was office-appropriate enough to try.
My initial thoughts were that the cut is super flattering. I’m wearing a petite XXS, which was a nice fit on my barely 5’2″ frame. The sleeve opening was certainly wide, but I liked the balance of the high neck, making it look more conservative and ladylike than some of the overly trendy versions with too much detailing. This particular top also comes in solid colors, which would also be very pretty, and perhaps less distracting, than this printed option.
For work, I paired it with a faux leather skirt, opaque black tights, and wedge booties. I think it would also be a nice juxtaposition to pair it with distressed jeans and heeled sandals for a date night or brunch with friends.
Have any of you tried this trend? Are you a fan?
