I’m on a constant hunt for easy everyday dressses, those that can be worn to work or on the weekend. One of my main focuses for my own wardrobe, which I aim to convey through Wellesley & King, is that I don’t believe in owning a ton of clothes that aren’t practical, or items that I can only wear under certain circumstances (like say a dozen formal cocktail dresses just because they’re cute). Instead, I’m all about versatility in the wardrobe, and today’s post is all about exactly that.
My favorite places to shop for everyday dresses are J.Crew and J.Crew Factory. The quality is great, and most of the dresses are available in extended sizing (petite and tall). All of their options are tasteful yet on-trend and, with the Factory options, pricing works for any budget. Below are some of my current favorite work-to-weekend styles. Which one is your favorite?
A traditional fit-and-flare shape is my go-to, like the tank dress in today’s post and this lace option. Any slimmer sleeve style, (halter, spaghetti strap, or strapless) would be inappropriate for the office, which means I’m automatically ruling out most of my wear-time. Instead, a higher neckline with a covered back and flare shape is conservative for the workplace yet casual for the weekend.
I also love the simplicity of an easy sheath dress, like this one made of a nice silky fabric dressing it up more than your average cotton dress.
For under $30, this dress is absolutely perfect for work and weekend. Sadly, for my fellow shorties, I tried this one on in an XXS, but it was gigantic on me. My usual sizing in J.Crew is a PXS, but depending on the piece of clothing an XXS works, too. In this case, no such luck as the regular sizing was much too long to be flattering. But for anyone in regular sizing, this dress is so versatile. You can really wear for almost anything, dress it up or down, and it’s appropriate.
