Winter is starting to hit Pittsburgh, so warm layers have been a must over the last two weeks (side note: Can you believe it’s already the third week of January?! Where does the time go?) It was so warm during the holidays, and then–bam!–January came and so did all of the cold weather.
I’ve been layering up in scarves, mittens and hats to combat the cold during my morning commutes to work. Over the last two weeks, there hasn’t been a day that I’ve not worn this coat or my boots. I picked up the coat during a sale earlier in the winter season from J.Crew Factory and it was exactly what I had been looking for. The specs for this purchases were: no fur on the hood, a longer length, black, and preferably no metallic details (zippers, buttons, etc.).
While there are some obvious buttons on this coat, there is a nice foldover detail that keeps them under wraps. I also really liked that it came with these “built-in” hand warmers. It may seem like it wouldn’t make much difference, but these are great for keeping your wrists warm with gloves over top.
This oversized hat from J.Crew is super warm, but mostly it’s just fun. The pom is adorable and I love the confetti colored specs of color throughout the grey. I would wear it all day at work if I could.
And last, my old faithful Hunter boots. Beware though, when the temperatures really drop, these are not made for extreme cold or heavy snow! If your morning commute involves a great deal of walking then definitely invest in something more heavy duty.
And yes… I chopped all of my hair off, thanks to Michele at Capristo Salon in Pittsburgh! I cut off 5 inches during my last cut, and another 5 this time around. I had to do it in steps or I think the shock might’ve killed me. It’s a welcome change for sure!
