Is it just me, or are you also on an endless hunt for day to night pieces, like this midi dress? On Wellesley & King, curating a versatile wardrobe is a key component of loving your closet. The ability to invest in items that can be worn for a variety of events means that, not only are you smartly spending your money, but you’re creating a wardrobe where you can embrace your creativity to constantly come up with new and different outfit ideas.

This ribbed knit midi dress is the perfect example of one of these versatile pieces.

I first stumbled upon this dress while looking for maternity friendly pieces that could get me through (or at least up to) my third trimester. I’ll be honest, bodycon and I haven’t really developed a comfortable relationship throughout my life, so wearing something this form-fitting is somewhat outside of my comfort zone. As my belly grows though, I’ve come to appreciate soft fabrics that do not feel restrictive (even if I do choose to wear Spanx underneath at times).

What I wanted to highlight in this post is that, comfort doesn’t have to mean casual. On the contrary, pairing this knit midi dress with a structured faux leather jacket adds an element of edge and dresses it up just enough for a night out.

More ways to wear it:

  • Converse sneakers + a denim jacket = Casual Saturday Stroll

  • Open-toe booties + aviator sunnies = Sunday Brunch

  • Strappy heeled sandals + long structured vest = Chic Date Night Out

Of course the fact that this midi dress comes in black makes it ultra chic and easily incorporated with my other favorites. If black isn’t your thing, that’s ok!

If you’re totally unsure as to whether a piece will make a versatile addition to your wardrobe, start by choosing something simple: minimal detailing and a simple silhouette (think of avoiding anything overly trendy like ruffles, bell-sleeves, and exposed shoulders). From there, you can always mix in favorite accessories to change up the look. Have fun with it–see how many combinations you can come up with!

What’s your go-to versatile wardrobe piece?
