This year, we’re all spending a lot more time at home, but that doesn’t have to mean being cooped up. Here are 5 easy ways to stay cozy at home.
1. Curl up with a good book
Fill up a cup of coffee, find a nice easy chair, pull on a blanket and get swept away into another world. A good book can transport you to wherever you wish to go. Whether you’re an e-Reader (like Arnie) or opt for the more tangible and traditional paper books (like me), settling into a good read can be a great way to pass the hours in warm, quiet comfort.
2. Settle in for a holiday movie
My all-time favorite Christmas movie will always be Little Women. My sister and I watched this movie at least a hundred times growing up, and watching it always brings about sweet childhood memories. In fact, I adore Little Women so much that I even talked Arnie into visiting the Louisa May Alcott Orchard House, where the movie is filmed, when we visited Massachusetts after our wedding.
3. Bake something sweet
There’s something about the smell of fresh baked cookies in winter that really puts me into the holiday spirit. Baking together can be a great activity for couples or friends to spend time together away from the distraction of the TV, computers, and phones. And of course, as an added bonus, you get to eat when you’re done! This hot chocolate dump cake is as easy, yet decadent as recipes come and these Peppermint Spritz Cookies are one of my favorites to make for the holiday.
4. Warm up with hot chocolate
Winter weather and hot chocolate are as classic a pairing as can be–and there’s a reason for it. It’s downright delicious! Drinking warm beverages in wintertime truly takes comfort to the next level. Williams Sonoma offers several hot chocolate flavors to choose from, including caramel, but Arnie and my personal favorite are their Peppermint Hot Cocoa. Throw in a few marshmallows and you have the perfect winter weather drink.
5. Spend the day in your PJs
To me, pajamas are the one gift I never tire of receiving. It’s a gift that I wouldn’t otherwise buy myself but always feels like a treat to receive them. On weekends and in the evenings after work, I love to come home and curl up on the couch in a clean pair of pajamas, and settle in for a favorite TV show.
