When the weather gets really cold, I find myself getting a bit lax with my wardrobe, often opting for pants and longer sweaters–items that are overall more casual. It becomes less appealing to wear dresses or skirts because, even with tights, my legs are still cold. The solutions?
1.) Knee high or over-the-knee boots
They are the perfect companions for skirts or dresses come winter weather, keeping your legs warm. I prefer suede to leather for high boots, but recommend treating them with a weatherproof spray prior to wearing (this one is under $10 at Nordstrom).
2. ) Mix cotton basics with structured pieces.
When temperatures dip below freezing, we’re all thinking comfort over all else. By mixing cotton fabrics in with dressier items like this wool skirt will give you the best of both worlds: a comfortable outfit that is dressy and put together. Moral of the story: don’t underestimate a plain long sleeved tee or turtleneck. When paired with the right pieces (leather pants, a structured skirt, a sleeveless sheath dress), your cottons can keep you cozy but still polished.
3.) Utilize accessories
We all know the power of accessories. Adding in pieces like a statement necklace and leather gloves will take your outfit to the next level in a matter of seconds. This is precisely why we all love our statement necklaces so much, is it not?
4. Invest in statement outerwear
How many times have you guys seen this coat (examples here and here)? That’s because it’s made entirely of neutrals in a classic silhouette. It can be worn with anything, from jeans to a suit dress. You can put it on in under 30 seconds and look instantly chic.
That’s all you need, guys–four ways to look instantly polished this winter.
Have you tried any of these? What are some of your favorite ways to stay chic while staying warm?
